by Carl F. Neal

$15.95

A practical and easy to use manual for the home incense maker!  Packed with techniques for blending, rolling and drying your own cones and sticks of natural incense, it's mandatory reading for all novice incense makers.  The book even goes into detail about the magickal empowerment and use of incense in ritual as well.  Even if you just make incense for the pleasing scent, this book is a must have.  By ordering from this web site you can have your copy autographed just for you (unsigned copies may also be ordered). This book discusses the basic components of incense making, the uses of a wide variety of forms of incense and includes troubleshooting, ingredient and recipe charts that make it a breeze to follow.

It's written in a conversational style that gives the feeling of a personal lesson rather than that of a "how-to" book.  For followers of New Age paths, it includes rituals and spells and features an appendix dedicated to the ritual use of incense.

Cunningham's Book of Magical Herbs

Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs

by Scott Cunningham

$21.95

In days gone by our ancestors lived in harmony with the earth. They knew which plants could heal and which ones could kill. They also knew that plants harbored magical powers, forces that could be harnessed and directed to fulfill a need - anything from protecting a house to finding true love.

Magical herbalism is the use of these powers to create positive changes. This revised and updated fifteenth anniversary edition contains folklore and magical properties of over 400 herbs. Far from concentrating on esoteric, unobtainable plants, many of those mentioned within are old friends.

The magical properties of onions, cashews, apples, rice, lettuce - as well as dill, basil, fennel, garlic, and parsley are described.
Extensive tables, a cross-reference of folk names, glossary, and annotated bibliography make this a comprehensive and valuable guide to the practice of magical herbalism.

This book is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in making, or just using, incense for magical reasons. Whether rolling cones and sticks or making loose or powder incense, this book is an excellent guide to magical properties of your ingredients.

Wylundt's Book of Incense

$14.95

This book is an incense-maker's classic! It contains an extensive catalogue of ingredients used in incense, each with a clear description of its scent when burned, as well as  instructions for using it as a single-herb incense. Invaluable when designing your own blends! A discussion of the use of liquid scents (oils) is also included.

The second half of the book is a huge collection of incense recipes for cone incense, great to use as is or as a jump-off point for your own inspiration.

The one defect with this book is that many of the recipes rely on saltpeter. Often these work fine by just omitting the saltpeter; the rest can usually be fixed by either decreasing the amount of resins or adding more base wood to the mix. (We'd be happy to help you adjust any particular recipe. Just write us!)

Wylundt is a must-have for any incense maker's book shelf. We find ourselves going back to it again and again.

Morita Book of Incense

The Book of Incense
by Kiyoko Morita

$9.95

This lovely little book is the first written for the English-speaking reader which describes in detail the traditional use of incense in Japan. It covers thethe rich history of the incense trade and incense use in Japan through the centuries. Morita lovingly describes the rituals, materials, and tools used in the Kodo incense ceremony, a ceremony not known as well in the Western world as tea ceremony, but just as complex in lore and attention to detail.

Morita also gives instructions for playing traditional "incense games", which blend the literary tradition with the joy of identifying and describing scents.

Anyone who is interested in the Japanese way of incense, either from a cultural perspective or from the perspective of wanting to try some of the Kodo-style methods themselves, will find this little gem a fascinating read.
